Review 2022

    • 18th Confocal Raman Imaging Symposium

The Confocal Raman Imaging Symposium is the original scientific conference for Raman imaging microscopy and in 2022 we returned to Ulm’s Stadthaus for its 18th occasion.

The first day featured technical introductions to the technique and associated technologies, a presentation on medical applications for Raman imaging, and an evening lecture of Albert Einstein. For the second day, talks were grouped by application field and there were opportunities to view and interact with the authors of the 29 scientific posters on display. One of those posters won the Poster Award that evening during the conference dinner. The third day consisted of equipment and software demonstrations at WITec headquarters.

It was a very welcome return to an in-person format after several years of online variations. A record 120 researchers participated and the speaker lineup reflected the range of fields in which Raman imaging is being applied.

The Abstract Book for the Symposium can be downloaded here (opens PDF).

We've also published a full press release for the event that is available in English and in German.

  • Best Poster Award Winner

The 2022 Poster Award was won by Johannes Kehren from Hochschule Koblenz in Höhr-Grenzhausen for his work: Nitride Bonded Silicon Carbide (NBSC) The Formation of Si3N4 Studied by in situ Hyperspectral Raman Imaging

He, along with his colleague Olaf Krause, investigated NBSC using Raman spectroscopy to better understand the unique properties that make this material group ideal for use as a protective barrier between the combustion chamber and the metallic pipes in the recuperator system of waste incineration plants.
